Social Media for Professionals

Social media has been a large game changer for professionals in all fields. It is because it has created new environments for people to be able to interact with one another and a new way to stay connected. There are billions of users on different social media platforms, and each platform has positives and negatives. Some positives about social media is you can reach out to people who do not live near you, you are able to post about a verify of things which interest you, and you can post using a variety of tools. These tools are photos, videos, blog posts, and even audio messages. All of these tools have opened up many possibilities for communication professionals since they are able to reach out too many consumers easily. However, there are negatives to social media, for example when an incident occurs and someone posts about it, the incident can blow up more than necessary often. “Social media have been characterized as a double-edged sword during times of crisis (Ki & Nekmat, 2014)” ( Triantafilludou, & Yannas, 2020). Social media can be used to help companies, but it can also harm them. If a situation gets out of hand, then social media can be used as a weapon against that company or its employees. Often times a bystander will film a video of an event and post it to their page. That video can be shared and ti can spread very quickly across the internet.

Companies and professionals should be aware of bad publicity through social media, but they should be trying to help build their brands through media as well. They can create cute clips of whatever their company does and post photos about it. Posting video or photos to the story aspect of Facebook or Instagram is an easy way to gain attention while also keeping track of who is viewing your content. Social media experts should be aware of all social media has to offer and what sites are best to use for their company. Not everyone is in the same situations when it comes to what they should post on different platforms but a professional will know which platform best reaches their target audience. By keeping up with the new technology, a professional will always be able to connect with their audience and will be able to keep posting what they would like to see.
