Multimedia on Websites

August 2, 2020

There are many ways someone can use multimedia on their website. Some of the ways are more traditional, like posting a video or posting links to the social media accounts you would like to show others. However, there are newer medias someone can use on their website to make it more user friendly but also keep people interested right when they see your site. People are adding things “like hover states, audio or video media, scrolling interactions and more” (Mockplus, 2019) to get users more interested in their website. However, these new interactions and other tools can be tricky to incorporate because the interactions should go along with the theme of the website. If your interactions take away from the information you are presenting or distract from your brand, it can confuse the people viewing your site. On my home webpage, I have a few interactive areas, all of which can help introduce someone to my brand or even help them feel more connected to it. I am still learning about what my new brand is going to be but I hope to use more social media in the future. Websites need some interactive properties to keep viewers interesting in what your website has to say but also in order to keep the information fresh. As Peter Morville finds in his research about what user experience and what they look for, “information must be useful, usable, desirable, findable, accessible, and credible” (Morville, 2014). These are all traits someone should think about when making their website. I have thought through what goes onto my website and how users can interact with my media in order to understand my branding better. I think by adding videos, links to my social media, my Instagram photos, some playlists, and a contact sheet, users will really be able to understand my brand. User experience is so important for my website and I hope to continue to grow and give users what they want in order to connect with my content.
